Cross-body Love

As the world of fashion grows and changes, I can see it evolving into a world of extremism. Skirts are either macro or mini, couture is either extravagant or minimal, and purses are either enormous hobo bags or small cross-body bags!

I have to admit the majority of my handbags fit into the “enormous hobo” category, but as I see more and more smaller cross-body bags I’m falling more and more in love with them! They are convenient, they’re big enough to fit the essentials (phone, lip gloss, etc),  but small enough so that it’s not bulky or in the way.

Designers really know how to make cross-body bags  super cute, too!

2012: My Year in Pictures

We always complain about how long the week is or how horrible your day has been, always remarking “Oh my gawd, can you believe it’s only Wednesday?” or “Ugh, worst Monday ever.” But looking back on my year, I forget all the long sleepless nights I spent studying for a Global History test and the week that me and my best friend didn’t talk because of a stupid fight, and I only remember the best times I had.

I definitely grew as a person this year, stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new things! I also learned so much from school, from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and from my experiences. I’ve still got a long way to go and much more time to figure myself out but I know I have come one step closer to coming into my own.

I put together a ton of photos from some of the great times I had this year! I hope you had as good of a year as I did.

ENJOY xoxo

(Warning: Epic Post)

In January, I had my Sweeet 16 party. This fairytale is definitely one I’ll never forget!

As odd as it is for a teenager, I absolutely love going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. All of the culture and art fascinates me. I could spend the whole day there wandering around.

This spring break was the best one I’ve had my whole life. My family and I went to California and spent half our vacation in Los Angeles and the other half in San Diego. I’m dying to take another vacay there.

My parents are very supportive of me in everything I do even if they don’t 100% love what I’m doing, so in my quest to figure out who I am I dyed part of my hair hot pink! It was fun while it lasted…

I have the best friends ever. One of my best friends took me to the Hamptons for a weekend trip early in the summer!

As you may or may not know, I am a huge Demi Lovato fan. She is just perfect in every way so me and some of my friends went to a Demi concert together in June!

I hope 2013 treats us well!! Happy New Year!

…and school begins

The late nights, the pool days, and the suns rays are all coming to an end as school comes back in session all over the country. And, although I love nothing more than sitting on the beach with the newest gossip mag, I was kind of looking forward to going back to school because I’d get reunited with all of my friends again.

I wasn’t feeling too peppy when I woke up at 6 am on my first day, but as the day went by I was more than happy with all of the people in my classes and all of the teachers that I have. The work load, like always, seems like so much that it could ultimately be the death of me.

On the first day, it was perfectly warm and breezy so I wore a vibrant coral tank with gold hardware, black denim shorts, metallic gladiator sandals, and a chunky gold statement necklace! It was the best combo of summer style and fall flair (and I got tons of compliments! woohoo).

My schedule is a little crazy and it’s loaded with advanced classes; I told a friend what classes I was taking and she replied, “Do you want to die?” That’s how I figured out that this year will be, well, hell.

I’m already getting hours and hours of homework and I’ve only been in school for four day! It’s INSANITY, I swear teachers have no mercy. So… in case you were wondering why I haven’t been posting so much anymore it is solely because I do homework from the minute I get home from the minute I go to sleep. Fun right?

I hope you guys have better luck with school than I do! I’ll post again this week hopefully xoxo

Friday Favorites!

Hello Internet! It’s Friday! This past week I spent trying to finish my summer assignments, which I still haven’t finished yet, browsing the internet, and running random errands. These are just a few of the things I was obsessed with this week, I hope you guys like them as much as I do. Enjoy!

1. Favorite Accessory:

Fereira Handbag. Aldo. $50. I want it soooooooooo bad!

2. Favorite Makeover:

Jessica Alba trades her shiny dark brown locks for a trendy ombré do. Love it!

3. Favorite Baby Laugh:

I can’t help but laugh!

4. Favorite Street Style:

Victorias Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio wears fabulous turquoise jeggings, $168, Tom Ford sunglasses, $490, and a stylish Rag & Bone fedora, $175.

5. Favorite Nail Polish:

Pinking of You, OPI. $7.50. Light nail polish is so classy but it’s never outdated! SCORE!

6. Favorite Song:

Prima Donna- Marina and the Diamonds. I never knew I would love British pop music this much!

7. Favorite Celeb:

I love Lauren Conrad! She’s absolutely PERFECT!

8. Favorite Blogger:

I was browsing through some blogs and I found http://www.MyStylePill.com and I fell in love. Christine uploads pictures of herself in her fabulous wardrobe almost daily; she has such a colorful, flirty-fun style that makes me swoon.

9. Favorite Quote:

This is actually a quote in Spanish (sorry for the language switch!) but I really like it. In English it means ‘Don’t stress yourself out about the future, for neither the present is definite.’ A lot of times people forget this and sometimes people really need to let go and trust the universe.

10. Favorite TV Show:

I highly doubt I am not the only who was left completely in shock after the season finale of Pretty Little Liars. Who knew it would be so scary! Can’t wait to see what drama happens next season!

That’s it for this week! I hope everyone had as good of a week as I did (: Have a great weekend girlies xoxo

It’s Back-to-School time!

Got back-to-school jitters? Me too.

There are lots of good things about going back to school but there are also reasons to be nervous. Who will be in my classes? Am I going to have nice teachers? Will I have a good lab partner? Where will I sit at lunch?

And most importantly……

WHAT DO I WEAR ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL?!

Everyone knows that you have to dress to impress but so many girls don’t know what outfit would be the perfect outfit to wear.

To make sure you showcase your glowing summer skin, you might want to wear a bright (neon?) color or a crazy pattern. If you’re a little bit edgier, you might want to wear a vintage band tee or a distressed tank; it totally feels summery.

Tank tops or short sleeve shirts are usually the way to go because it’s still hot when it’s time to go back to school. If it seems a little chilly outside, then don a cute cardigan. On the bottom, both shorts and skinny jeans are acceptable. White shorts are always a great option because they will show off your sun kissed legs!

I always like to wear my hair down on the first day of school, but that may just be me. My go-to hairstyle is beach-y waves with my bangs braided and pinned back.

You may want to finish off your look with some jewelry (earrings and a necklace?) and a super cute pair of flip flops. Go crazy with your accessories, it’s a fun way to bring your personality into an outfit!

Good luck on your first day of school! I hope these tips helped you out! xoxo

FALL TREND ALERT: Polka Dots!

So as much as I love the summer (and trust me, I loooove the summer), I am really looking forward to fall fashion. There is just something about wearing plush faux fur in the chilly autumn air that makes the season oh-so wonderful.

I love looking forward to the cable knit sweaters and the corduroy skinnies, the combat boots and the knee-high riding boots, and even the leather moto-jacket and the super snuggly scarves. But what I like most about are the colors. I love the emerald, the chocolate, the maroon, and the gold colors of the new garments hanging in store windows and on chic bodies. I also adore the orange and red of the leaves and the grey tone of the sky.

By late August and early September, I am ready to trade in my florals for more seasonal patterns. One of the new trendy fall patterns is oversized polka dots (along with the traditional plaids and muted stripes). Lucky for me I spotted the polka-trend prematurely and bought a super fab button-down sheer polka dot shirt from Forever 21 on my last shopping spree! Who knew it would be perfectly in-style for the fall 2012?!

Even my favorite mag, Seventeen, spotted the polka dot trend! YES!

Love For Lawrence

Can we all just take a moment to admire how perfect Jennifer Lawrence is?!

She’s tall, she’s gorgeous, aaannnnddd she is hottie Josh Hutcherson’s girlfriend in The Hunger Games!

I feel like sometimes she goes unnoticed on red carpets but I have absolutely no reason why. Her multi-toned beach blonde hair falls perfectly on her clear, sun kissed skin! She constantly looks flawless and wears daring, but beautiful outfits!

Everything she wears compliments her skinny-yet-curvy figure and accentuate her long, lean legs! With simple makeup, messy-chic hair, and some strappy shoes Jennifer looks picture perfect!

For fancier events, Lawrence opts for full length gowns and riskier ensembles. All of the gowns above could not be more different! The first is a fun and bold hot pink dress which stole envious glances on the red carpet. The second is a sweet lace corseted dress with simple hair and a bright turquoise bracelet. The last is a minimal red gown which flattered her curves and her hair to a T.

And last, but certainly not least, nobody can forget Jennifer’s show-stopping metallic gold cut-out gown she wore to The Hunger Games premiere. Her hair, her makeup, and this dress made her quite a gorgeous sight.

Jennifer Lawrence does not get enough style credit in my opinion. She’s absolutely fabulous!

DIY Diva

Howdy!

So, I have officially become a do-it-yourself diva! I have always admired the super creative people who could take their old stuff and completely revamp it. They are so cool and crafty! I began to realize how much old stuff I have that I never ever use, and that was when I starting DIY-ing.

Although I’m still a novice diva, I have done a few projects that came out exceptionally well! (If I do say so myself )

I just recently went through my closet parting with the items that no longer fit me or that I don’t really like anymore and I found one of my denim mini skirts from way back in middle school when they were super cool! And, with my mom’s sewing kit, an old sweater, and a little magic, my old school mini skirt was transformed into an amazing messenger bag! I sewed some sequins here and there and I made the handle and the bottom of the bag out of the old sweater and even studded one of the pockets! Super thrifty, right?!

Also, in my mom’s sewing kit, I found the prettiest piece of lace that she wasn’t using! So I whipped out a pair of lavender denim short shorts and sewed the lace on the top of one of the back pockets! It looks adorable and it adds a little girly touch.

I am also a huuuge fan of the at home mani-pedi! Yes, every once and a while it’s nice to get your nails done at a salon, but many people can’t afford to get them done regularly. DIY nails and funky nail art are really trendy and fun to do! I do my own nails all of the time and I only get them done before a special event or a vacation because it is so easy to do your own mani-pedi!

To do your own awesome mani-pedi this is what you should do:

  • wash and exfoliate your hands and feet
  • moisturize  your hands and feet
  • cut and file your nails
  • apply a thin clear coat
  • paint 2-3 coats of your color depending on how sheer your color is
  • TIP: you should wait about ten minutes in between coats; never paint another coat when your nails are still wet because your nails would take forever to dry!
  • apply a top coat

And it’s as simple as that to do a DIY mani-pedi! Of course, now you can do any designs that you would like. I’ve done stripes, reverse french mani, ombre, and even galaxy nails!

Right now I’m wearing Pacific Blue by Sally Hanson. I did an ombre glitter design on it with 518 by Artmatic.  All you have to do to achieve this look is to do the basic mani from above then, when its dry, paint the glitter polish backward (start from the white part of the nail and paint towards the finger). This creates the ombre look because there are more sparkles at the top of the nail than the bottom!

FIT Precollege Program Day 4

Today was such a bittersweet day to say the least. It was the last day of camp, but it was also the best day of the whole camp!

We went on  a field trip to the Lily Kate showroom on 39th street to meet with the designers of the clothing brand Parker! Parker is a small, high-end brand for the chic on-the-go fashionista. Derek, one of the designers, said that he would describe his collection as feminine, easy, comfortable, and noticeable. The company is known for their fabulous shapes, amazing fit, their effortlessness, and, last but not least, their wonderfully bold  patterns!

The owners took my class on a tour of their showroom and we also got a sneak peak on their not-yet-released Resort Collection! I’m in loove with this collection (shhhhh it’s full of rompers and cute dress in fabulous colors!). We also got to look around their design room and their sample room and see all of their past and future designs! It was so amazing.  I feel like I really understand the process and the work involved in designing and producing a clothing line.

Tons and Tons of celebs ah-dore the Parker collections and their products are constantly in magazines and on the starlets so look out for them! The company has only be open for four years and already it’s so successful and so established. You can buy Parker clothing at stores like Intermix and Neiman Marcus or online on a website like shopbop!

Oh boy would I like to intern there…

Here are some pictures from the showroom and the program in general! Enjoy! xoxo

FIT Precollege Program Day 3

I really wish that this program was longer, I looove it!

This morning we watched the documentary called The September Issue and it was actually quite fascinating. It depicted the extensive process behind perfecting and publishing the September issue of the esteemed Vogue magazine. Of course, Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue and world-wide style guru, starred in much of the video as well as some of her employees.

After watching this movie I respect the pages of magazines way more than I had before; now I just look at a page and muse over how much effort it took to produce that page. The movie takes you behind the scenes of photo shoots, meetings, fashion shows, and much more. If you are interested in the fashion industry and have not yet seen this documentary I would definitely recommend it.

Then in the afternoon, a guest speaker, Tami Ruiz, came to my class to share with us her experiences as the broadcast producer for CBS Saturday Morning. She stressed to us how important attention to detail is and how hard her job actually is. She must make sure everything is perfect for the show and she must minimize the amount of unforeseen problems that may occur on air.

Tami encouraged taking as many different internships as possible (like all of my other teachers!) and she said that exploring the field to find your niche is very important. Today I learned that there is such a huuge difference between print PR and media PR and that I have a LOT more to learn.

P.S. She won two Emmy’s in production!! So cool right?!

Once again I’m excited for tomorrow because we are going to visit a NYC designer showroom! But sadly, tomorrow is my last day of the program and i really think i’m taking a lot out of this experience!

BYE LOVELIES XOXO
