“We want more! We want more [Prints]!”

As the weather gets warmer and warmer, I find myself gravitating way more to bright, colorful pieces rather than the mute, monotone pieces I used to gravitate towards in the winter months. Spring is overall a happy season and it just makes me want to wear happy clothes!

Bold patterns and eye-catching colors have flooded every store out there and I can’t wait to get my hands on some unique pieces. I’m also really excited because yellows and oranges are really in this summer; I’ve always wanted to try out those colors but I could never find many pieces that I liked that were yellow or orange.

anthro dashka stitched blouse

I can always find one-of-a-kind pieces at Anthropology; that’s why I love that store so much! This pale pink ruffled peplum blouse is unique in its structure and pattern. I need to take a trip to Anthro soon!

parker emmy jacket

This jacket could be so versatile because of all the colors in it. It’s the perfect summer blazer and can be dressed up or dressed down. I actually met the designer for Parker NY and went to their NYC showroom. It was one of the best experiences of my life. They pride themselves on their unique patterns! Check them out!

modcloth new to the block bag

Isn’t this bag from Modcloth beyond adorable?! It’s so dainty and preppy that I wish I owned it. The combination of colors and the splash of polka dots makes this adorable bag a necessity!

lulus can you zig it? blue chevron print dress

No print screams summer more than chevron! This casual dress is perfect to wear for a day in town or a dinner by the coast. I love the stark contrast between the white and the cobalt blue. Swoon!!

The other day I was out shopping for a bunch of presents I needed to by for my friend’s and family’s birthdays and I got a little sidetracked and feel in LOVE with this peplum top by BUFFALO by David Bitton. I’ve never seen a print like this before; it’s like a brocade-animal print. I had to buy it. Styling it will be so much fun!!

No Longer MIA

Hi lovelies!

I’m so so sorry I haven’t posted in a while.

With school, AP testing, the SAT, and so many other things, I just couldn’t find the time to blog! *gasp*  The good thing is that I only have one, yes only one, day of school left and only one regents exam to take. Isn’t that insanity? I only have one day left being a junior in high school.

This summer I have a lot on my plate! I’m visiting my relatives in Nebraska, I’m taking a three week course at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City for fashion merchandising (words cannot express my excitement for it!), and I also might have an internship at a marketing firm (I’m crossing my fingers!!).

Of course, I’ll be blogging every minute of my summer! I also hope to do a lot of volunteering, attend dance classes at Broadway Dance Center, and spend some down time at the beach.

I hope all of you have had a great spring!

2012: My Year in Pictures

We always complain about how long the week is or how horrible your day has been, always remarking “Oh my gawd, can you believe it’s only Wednesday?” or “Ugh, worst Monday ever.” But looking back on my year, I forget all the long sleepless nights I spent studying for a Global History test and the week that me and my best friend didn’t talk because of a stupid fight, and I only remember the best times I had.

I definitely grew as a person this year, stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new things! I also learned so much from school, from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and from my experiences. I’ve still got a long way to go and much more time to figure myself out but I know I have come one step closer to coming into my own.

I put together a ton of photos from some of the great times I had this year! I hope you had as good of a year as I did.

ENJOY xoxo

(Warning: Epic Post)

In January, I had my Sweeet 16 party. This fairytale is definitely one I’ll never forget!

As odd as it is for a teenager, I absolutely love going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. All of the culture and art fascinates me. I could spend the whole day there wandering around.

This spring break was the best one I’ve had my whole life. My family and I went to California and spent half our vacation in Los Angeles and the other half in San Diego. I’m dying to take another vacay there.

My parents are very supportive of me in everything I do even if they don’t 100% love what I’m doing, so in my quest to figure out who I am I dyed part of my hair hot pink! It was fun while it lasted…

Field Trips & Fashion

Hey dolls!

Yesterday I had my third precollege class at The Fashion Institute of Technology and it is just amazing. I love going so much and now that I take the class I look forward to Saturday’s more than ever! I think it’s just the fact that I can dress however I want and be in the city all day. I learn so many new things about designers and the market that my brain can barely keep!

During class yesterday we took a field trip to the ever-so-urban Meatpacking District. There, we split up into small groups and wandered 14th street. We were encouraged to stop in all of the couture boutiques and look around at all of the stuff that was once on the runway.

My group went to Moschino and Alexander McQueen and a huge thrift store! I fell in love with every single garment in Moschino. Everything from the shapes to the material to the  colors were absolutely stunning; they balanced girly with edgy perfectly. The Alexander McQueen boutique was another world entirely. It was set up like a museum, I didn’t know if I was allowed to touch any of it! I was in awe at everything I saw; I had to snap some pictures. The thrift store was super chic with vendors that sold records to vendors that sold bracelets made of cutlery. There were racks of vintage furs and old band tees and everything you could imagine. I found these two super cute hand made rings and I loved them so much I had to buy one!

We all met together in the Chelsea Markets, which was adorably decorated for halloween with spiderwebs and ghosts hanging from the ceiling and purple lights! Oh, how I love the city.

We might be going to SoHo next week! AH I’m beyonndd excited!

FIT Precollege Program Day 4

Today was such a bittersweet day to say the least. It was the last day of camp, but it was also the best day of the whole camp!

We went on  a field trip to the Lily Kate showroom on 39th street to meet with the designers of the clothing brand Parker! Parker is a small, high-end brand for the chic on-the-go fashionista. Derek, one of the designers, said that he would describe his collection as feminine, easy, comfortable, and noticeable. The company is known for their fabulous shapes, amazing fit, their effortlessness, and, last but not least, their wonderfully bold  patterns!

The owners took my class on a tour of their showroom and we also got a sneak peak on their not-yet-released Resort Collection! I’m in loove with this collection (shhhhh it’s full of rompers and cute dress in fabulous colors!). We also got to look around their design room and their sample room and see all of their past and future designs! It was so amazing.  I feel like I really understand the process and the work involved in designing and producing a clothing line.

Tons and Tons of celebs ah-dore the Parker collections and their products are constantly in magazines and on the starlets so look out for them! The company has only be open for four years and already it’s so successful and so established. You can buy Parker clothing at stores like Intermix and Neiman Marcus or online on a website like shopbop!

Oh boy would I like to intern there…

Here are some pictures from the showroom and the program in general! Enjoy! xoxo

FIT Precollege Program Day 3

I really wish that this program was longer, I looove it!

This morning we watched the documentary called The September Issue and it was actually quite fascinating. It depicted the extensive process behind perfecting and publishing the September issue of the esteemed Vogue magazine. Of course, Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue and world-wide style guru, starred in much of the video as well as some of her employees.

After watching this movie I respect the pages of magazines way more than I had before; now I just look at a page and muse over how much effort it took to produce that page. The movie takes you behind the scenes of photo shoots, meetings, fashion shows, and much more. If you are interested in the fashion industry and have not yet seen this documentary I would definitely recommend it.

Then in the afternoon, a guest speaker, Tami Ruiz, came to my class to share with us her experiences as the broadcast producer for CBS Saturday Morning. She stressed to us how important attention to detail is and how hard her job actually is. She must make sure everything is perfect for the show and she must minimize the amount of unforeseen problems that may occur on air.

Tami encouraged taking as many different internships as possible (like all of my other teachers!) and she said that exploring the field to find your niche is very important. Today I learned that there is such a huuge difference between print PR and media PR and that I have a LOT more to learn.

P.S. She won two Emmy’s in production!! So cool right?!

Once again I’m excited for tomorrow because we are going to visit a NYC designer showroom! But sadly, tomorrow is my last day of the program and i really think i’m taking a lot out of this experience!

BYE LOVELIES XOXO

FIT Precollege Program Day 2

*yawn* I had such a busy day today so I’m awfully wiped out!

Today was day 2 of my four-day long precollege program at the amazing Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Same as yesterday my sister, my dad, and myself rode an early train into grand central, then took two subways to find ourselves at the doorsteps of FIT (but of course we had to get a Starbucks frap first!).

My professor for the program is Melissa Stolper, a seasoned publicist who knows the business like the back of her hand. She interned for BCBG and Anne Klein, and worked for many established public relations firms all over Manhattan. I am so grateful that she is my teacher because she provides my class with really useful, relevant, and honest information about the business and how to survive in it! She even worked with Rachel Zoe!!

This morning Melissa brought our class of twenty one high school girls- and one very lucky high school boy- to The Brooks Group, a small but esteemed firm in NYC. We walked to her office, and, I must say, her office is just fabulous. It was all very minimal and mostly white but there were splashes of a deep purple or a bright fuchsia around. There were also plush purple rugs and a dazzling sparkling chandelier above their conference table. It was all very girly and glamorous while maintaining a certain level off professionalism.

ANYWAYS…. Rebecca Brooks opened The Brooks Group when she was only 25 years old!! She was determined to succeed and she slowly built up her client list and grew in popularity in the business. Rebecca’s first client that rose to starlet status was the amazing Racheal Ray! This big break brought tons of work to The Brooks Group and help make them what they are today! Rebecca and her team are so up-to-date with all of the latest trends and the newest gossip and they say that the gossip and the trends are what makes the job so interesting!

Later in the day, after we got back from the trip (and our lunch break) we had a guest speaker come to our class and give us further insight into this crazy industry we call public relations. The speaker was the lovely Nancy Cuocci from Siren Public Relations Inc. Nancy is the account supervisor for the firm which means that she oversees all of the business that goes in and out of the company. Siren, for the most part, deals with smaller jewelry companies and accessory companies and Nancy described how specializing in accessory PR is soo much different than specializing in lifestyle PR. She really opened my eyes to many of the different facets or PR and made a point to stress to the class the importance of getting internships.

I am so thankful to my parents for sending me to this program because without it I would not have learned all that i have so far and I would be blind to all of the career opportunities I have never thought of before. I’m starting to seriously consider fashion PR as a career option for me because it combines something I love, which is fashion/pop culture, with something I’m good at, which is marketing/business.

Tomorrow should be another fun filled day so be sure to check up! xoxo

FIT Precollege Program Day 1

HEY!! Let me tell you about my day, it was fabulous!

My parents signed my sister Nicole and I up for a week long precollege class at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), a college in NYC that specializes in everything fashion! It was a super exciting experience for us both because it’s something completely new and different from everything we have ever done before!

It takes a little while to get from where we live to the FIT campus. We have to take a train and then two subways to get there; we have to get up pretty early, but I guess that is all part of the experience so I’m not complaining!

I’m taking a ‘Public Relations for Fashion’ class and it is all about branding, PR for the fashion industry, and product placement. Even though today was the very first day I can already tell that this week is going to be awesome. This past year, I took a marketing class as an elective in my school and I enjoyed it a lot which is good because the FIT class is similar to that, but with a fashionable twist! SCORE!

My teacher is also pretty cool so that’s definitely a plus and all of the girls in my class are soo sweet (and they’re from all over the world!). One of the girls in my class is from Saudi Arabia, whoa!

I’m totally stoked for tomorrow’s class. We are going to take a quick field trip to The Brooks Agency which is a major PR agency in NYC and then, in the afternoon, a surprise guest speaker is going to come and give some inside info about the business! CAN’T WAIT!

I will definitely keep everyone updated, so check back soon! (:
