The September Issue

the-september-issue-7

I’ve been watching a ton of documentaries in my free time recently and it’s actually a lot less boring than it sounds. I think that documentaries have a bad reputation, they are really insightful without being dull and drab!

The September Issue is a documentary that followed the staff of Vogue Magazine through the entire planning and production of the 2007 September issue of Vogue. The film features Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, and Grace Coddington, creative director of Vogue.

Although it’s not as action packed as The Devil Wears Prada, The September Issue is definitely as drama-filled. I really liked this documentary because it depicts what it is actually like to work for a magazine, through all of the ups and downs. It also does a really good job of showing the creative process behind the stories in the magazine.

I could watch this over and over again. You should watch it too!

How Long ‘Til Summer?

Screen shot 2013-01-23 at 6.49.32 PM

When you live in New York, you have to endure four very distinct seasons: a breezy spring, a simmering summer, and chilly autumn, and a very, very, VERY cold winter. I personally do not like the cold weather. Furthermore, the grey skies, nippy winds, and the shorter days makes the winter even worse!

The only thing that’s getting through these last killer months is the fact that the weather should be warming up soon! Also, I’ve started getting emails from my favorite stores debuting their Spring/Summer collections. I warm up just looking at them!

As I was looking through the emails, Lulu’s cute and unique sunnies definitely caught my eye! I might just have to get myself a pair.

Bill Cunningham New York

1bcunningham1_091008

For those of you who don’t know who Bill Cunningham is, he is one of the most influential photographers in the fashion industry. Since his early childhood, Bill has been snapping photos of ordinary people on the streets of New York City who are wearing clothes that are anything but ordinary.

Bill Cunningham New York is a documentary produced in 2010 about Bill’s life and his amazing work. I’m upset I haven’t been too familiar with Bill’s work because it’s something very unique and special. The documentary depicts the real Bill  and I think it will be a pleasantly surprising fresh air for most. Bill doesn’t photograph for fame, for money, or for the celebrities, he does it because it makes him happy.

One of the things that shocks me the most is that Bill is 83 years old! The entire day Bill rides around NYC on his bicycle scoping out the most interesting characters in the masses. The photos he takes really embody the feeling of the people and he and his team at the New York Times, where he reports for the Sunday Style section, arrange the photos in perfectly eye-catching and cohesive pieces.

I won’t spoil the whole film but if you are at all interested in fashion, photography, or even in the newspaper, I would definitely recommend watching this documentary.

2012: My Year in Pictures

We always complain about how long the week is or how horrible your day has been, always remarking “Oh my gawd, can you believe it’s only Wednesday?” or “Ugh, worst Monday ever.” But looking back on my year, I forget all the long sleepless nights I spent studying for a Global History test and the week that me and my best friend didn’t talk because of a stupid fight, and I only remember the best times I had.

I definitely grew as a person this year, stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new things! I also learned so much from school, from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and from my experiences. I’ve still got a long way to go and much more time to figure myself out but I know I have come one step closer to coming into my own.

I put together a ton of photos from some of the great times I had this year! I hope you had as good of a year as I did.

ENJOY xoxo

(Warning: Epic Post)

In January, I had my Sweeet 16 party. This fairytale is definitely one I’ll never forget!

As odd as it is for a teenager, I absolutely love going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. All of the culture and art fascinates me. I could spend the whole day there wandering around.

This spring break was the best one I’ve had my whole life. My family and I went to California and spent half our vacation in Los Angeles and the other half in San Diego. I’m dying to take another vacay there.

My parents are very supportive of me in everything I do even if they don’t 100% love what I’m doing, so in my quest to figure out who I am I dyed part of my hair hot pink! It was fun while it lasted…

Faux Fur Fever

Here in New York, we have four very distinct seasons. The spring is fresh and warm, the summer is scorching, the fall is crisp, and the winter is brutally cold. I find myself skipping over my studded three quarter sleeve shirt and opting for my comfy wool sweater.

One thing I’ve had my eye on for a while is a faux fur collar. It drapes over your jacket or coat just like a scarf would, except it looks like the lush mink stoles high class women used to wear out in the olden days. Fur automatically adds an air of luxury to any outfit (if use correctly) and is so easy to accommodate into your wardrobe.

One of my all-time favorite bloggers, Sammi from beautycrush.co.uk, has a whole collection of faux fur collars and she pulls them off so well. I’m obsessed! They look so chic and comfortable I am compelled to buy one!

Urban Outfitters Dress Inspired by Jennifer Lawrence?

It may just be a weird habit of mine, but I check my email so much it’s border-line compulsive! This morning, right after I woke up, I received an email from Urban Outfitters displaying their newly added items. I specifically liked this email because everything was gold! Gold is definitely this winter’s “It” color.

What caught my eye the most was a gold maxi dress that was strikingly similar to the fierce gown Jennifer Lawrence wore on the red carpet at The Hunger Games premiere. Both are shiny gold, have a racerback back, have diamond shaped cutouts on the sides, and have similar necklines! Whether it was intentional or not, I still love the UO maxi dress.

Neither Jennifer Lawrence nor Urban Outfitters ever disappoints! Jennifer’s red carpet styling is always flawless and her street style is effortlessly chic, and Urban Outfitter’s products never fail to be cute and affordable!

Free People’s Jewels

Although I can’t afford much of their clothes, I absolutely ah-dore everything Free People. It’s a very cool, bohemian brand with a glam edge to it. I specifically like the brand because of the colors it uses and for the extravagance of their seasonal catalogs.

I just recently got mine sent to me in the mail and I started looking through it as soon as I could. I was definitely not disappointed! Like always the models are gorgeous, the clothes are incredible and the styling is out of this world. The theme of the catalog was A Fairy Tale Holiday which is perfect for the brand because of the light colors it uses and the extra touches of sparkle you may notice here and there.

One this that stood out for me in this collection in specific was their elaborate jewelry! I don’t ever remember Free People designing such bold and elegant pieces. I was happily surprised. I wish the prices were lower so I could purchase them all! One of the necklaces is nearly $1,000!!

Here are some of my favorite looks *swoon*

Have a good one! xoxo

Best of the Week

From the very beginning, I was a huge Emma Stone fan. I loved her in The House Bunny, Easy A, and in her newest hit, The Help. She is an incredibly talented actress and she is beyond gorgeous.

The outfit Emma wore to the annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards this past Tuesday was by far my favorite look of the week. Everyone from models to actresses was invited to this event but Emma stood apart from them in a stunning, glitzy Burberry ensemble. The structured navy corset and the sequin emerald pencil skirt worked perfectly together and made her look radient. Not to mention her hair looks incredible styled like that!
